It marks the divine moment when Guru Nanak Dev Ji\nand Bhai Mardana Ji sheltered under a miraculous “Tambu” (tent) that appeared by Guru Ji’s grace.\nThis holy site is a symbol of Guru Ji’s compassion\, protection\, and spiritual power. \n\n \nHistory of Gurdwara Tambu Sahib\nGurdwara Tambu Sahib marks the sacred spot where Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji sat under the cover of a large\, protective Van tree (sometimes referred to as a “tambu” or tent) after a significant incident in his youth. \n\nAccording to historical accounts\, the Guru’s father gave him money for a profitable trade (a Sacha Sauda or true bargain)\, but Guru Nanak Dev Ji chose instead to use the money to feed a group of hungry ascetics. Upon returning home\, fearing his father’s reaction\, he rested under this specific tree. \nThe site stands today as a reminder of Guru Ji’s strength\, compassion\, and His message of equality\, freedom\, and truth. \n\n \nAPS Gurudham Yatra – Visit to Gurdwara Tambu Sahib\nThe American Punjabi Society (APS) delegation\, led by President Mr. Gary S. Sikka Ji during the Gurudham Yatra (November 20\, 2024\, to December 2\, 2024)\, included a deeply meaningful visit to Gurdwara Tambu Sahib. \n\nFor the APS pilgrims\, the visit to Tambu Sahib was a powerful opportunity to reflect on the core Sikh principle of selfless service (Sewa) and the importance of true human values over material profit. Over 300 participants gathered to promote cancer awareness\, prevention\, and fitness. \n  \nThe event was spearheaded by key figures in cancer care\, including Gurmohan Syali\, Chief Medical Officer of Blood Cancer Specialists\, and doctors Tarun Wasil and Jagmohan Kalra. Their leadership emphasized the critical role of community involvement in cancer prevention and treatment. \n  \nAttendees\, ranging from families to healthcare professionals\, enjoyed a day filled with activities. Raffles\, arts and crafts\, health consultations\, and a hot breakfast provided by local businesses made the event both engaging and educational. Vendors and volunteers from various health sectors also contributed by raising awareness about organ donation\, physical therapy\, and blood donation\, essential aspects of cancer care.
