APS New York Celebrates Lohri 2026

Dear APS  team,

On January 13, 2026, the Punjabi diaspora gathered at the Pearl Banquet Hall in Hicksville, NY, for an evening of tradition, gratitude, and community bonding. Under the leadership of APS President Gary Sikka, the event served as a reminder of the resilient spirit of Punjab.

The Sacred Bonfire & Rituals

The centerpiece of the evening was the traditional Lohri Bonfire. Families gathered to perform the Parikrama (circumambulation), tossing sesame seeds (til), jaggery (gur), and popcorn into the flames while praying for the prosperity of the community and the success of the “Mission Reboot Punjab” initiative.
